Tips on URL naming

Please note the following before applying a top-level URL:

(a) URLs should only use lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens

http://www.ceu.edu/news/ - rather than http://www.ceu.edu/News/

If you have two or more words, run them together or use hyphens to separate them.

http://www.ceu.edu/alumni-relations - rather than http://www.ceu.edu/alumni_relations/

http://www.ceu.edu/opendays/ - rather than http://www.ceu.edu/open.days/

(b) URLs should be memorable

http://www.ceu.edu/events/ - rather than http://www.ceu.edu/university-events-new

(c) URLs should be intuitive to users

http://www.ceu.edu/news rather than http://www.ceu.edu/info-update

http://www.ceu.edu/studentinfo rather than http://www.ceu.edu/admin-records

(d) URLs should not use internal-only acronyms

http://www.ceu.edu/registration rather than http://www.ceu.edu/rol

http://www.ceu.edu/search rather than http://www.ceu.edu/htsearch

(e) URLs should not necessarily reflect the organisational structure of the University

http://www.ceu.edu/chemistry rather than www.ceu.edu/dept-chemistry

Please note that subdomains, eg http://webguidelines.ceu.edu work in the University Content Management System.
